Cervical Spondylosis is a degenerative condition of the cervical (neck) spine that is the result of stress in the intervertebral disc and vertebrae of the neck. The person experiences tingling sensations, weakness in the arms and persistent stiffness and nagging pain in the neck, and vertigo. Inflammation in cervical discs can result in conditions such as tingling and numbness in the palm and fingers. When cervical spondylosis worsens, it can also affect your walking and your bladder and bowel evacuation. Though Cervical spondylitis is known to worsen with age, there are people who have also healed from this painful condition. Cervical spondylosis treatment in Ayurveda provides excellent results. This reinforces our beliefs and thereby everything else also is repetitively reinforcing our subconscious inventory. So, if it’s anger, hatred, and resentment, that’s what will get reinforced. Any emotion for that matter will get reinforced without conditions.

Cervical Spondylosis Symptoms

I visit people who are in a condition that they are unable to travel. In one such instance, I visited Rama. Rama (name changed), an officer in the Government, whom I’ve known for many years phoned me and explained about her acute cervical pains associated with vertigo. Rama was also feeling unsteady while standing and walking. She mentioned that with travel her condition worsened. She wanted to know if I could visit her once. Once in her place, I examined her physical, emotional, and psychological health through Nadi Pariksha. From my investigation, diagnosis, and evaluation of her condition, I came to the conclusion that she had had certain experiences that resulted in her getting angry and agitated which she wasn\’t able to express and that, apparently was the cause of her cervical spondylosis and vertigo. Anyone else would have brushed my explanation aside but, Rama has experienced my treatment before and so she believes what I say.

  • You can repeat this exercise 5 times and twice daily.

You must pay attention to any dizziness or a feeling of blackouts you may feel while looking up or down. In such cases, avoid doing this exercise.

Sit erect on a chair. Breathe in. As you breathe out, raise your shoulders and push them back as shown in the figure. Your chest will straighten up when you push back.

Breathe in, then, as you breathe out, raise your shoulders again and move them back to the original position as in the first image.

Repeat this step up to 5 times. This practice helps reduce stress in your shoulders and the nape of your neck.

Sleeping Early and getting that rest helps

Sleep before 10:30 pm. Keeping yourself awake after 10:00 pm will create discomfort and stress in your neck and will worsen cervical pains.

Rama concurred with my diagnosis and told me that she had indeed experiences that led to her feeling angry and agitated.

There are several symptoms that indicate that you might have cervical spondylosis.

Some of the common symptoms are;

  • Radiating pains along the shoulders, and arms, and traveling all the way up to your fingers.
  • Tingling feeling in your fingers
  • Pain behind or under either the left or right side of your jaw
  • Ear ache or pain behind your ear
  • Migraine headaches that begin from behind the ear and travel up to the top of your eyebrow
  • Stiffness in your neck with pain
  • Upper arm pain with numbness
  • Forearm pain with numbness

Cervical Spondylosis Treatment in Ayurveda

 

When we work with the mind, healing is much faster. So, I suggested to Rama that practice Nirmukt Chikitsa so that the effect of her anger and agitation on the body can reduce. Ayurvedic medicines are very effective in treating cervical spondylosis. The best part about Ayurveda is that you do not need to take these medicines for long. What stays for a long time are your dietary restrictions. I also suggested just one Ayurvedic medicine to drink along with an Ayurvedic tablet and medicine to apply. Before I left her place, I gave Marma chikitsa therapy which relieved her symptoms of cervical spondylosis and vertigo immediately.

Rama took her medication and also applied for medicines at the nape of her neck for 3 days and she felt much better. On the 7th day of treatment, she called and said that she was completely healed.

Sometimes cervical spondylosis does not reveal its symptoms at the neck. Symptoms such as acute ear ache, jaw pain, and also pain in the eyes and temples can occur instead and aggravate with exposure to heat, strong fragrances, sharp sounds as well as harsh lights.

Disbelief turns turtle with accurate diagnosis and treatment

I am also reminded of another instance of a client named Ramesh. He was a lecturer in an Engineering College in Mysore. Ramesh came to see me many years ago with complaints of acute ear pain. He did not have any symptoms of cervical spondylosis. I did his Nadi Pariksha and concluded that his pain occurred due to suppressed anger. Ramesh was a science student and very logical in mind.
