Pani Puri – Yummy rainy season treat

Pani Puri or Golgappa is one of the hot favourite Indian foods you can have in rainy season. It is hot, tangy with a dash of sweet it in is what makes Pani Puri so special. \’Pani\’ in Hindi means water. \’Puri\’ is a fried hollow ball made from wheat flour.

When it rains, my wife is quick to make one or the other mouthwatering lip smacking snack. She often prepares Pani Puri, Samosa, Cutlet, Hot Jamoon, and several other dishes. This is her way of sharing moments of joy.

Today, she is sharing Pani Puri recipe.

Pani Puri recipe Ingredients for 4 people

Potatoes – 4 nos. of medium size

Carrot – 3 nos.

Tomato – 3 nos.

Onion – 2 nos.

Split masala groundnuts (optional) – 50-100 grams

Sev – 250 grams

Pani puri masala – 4 – 5 teaspoons

Garam masala – 1 teaspoons

Salt – to taste

Water – for Pani (as required)

Cooking Oil ( 2 tea spoon)

Prepare the filling


Step 1: Pressure cook 3-4 Potatoes. Wait for 3-4 whistles. Peel the skin off and mash the potatoes.

Step 2: In a frying pan add 2 tea spoons of cooking oil. Light the stove. When oil is hot, add the mashed potatoes. Add

salt and garam masala to it… mix well and keep it aside.

Step 3: Prepare  Pani with pani puri masala and water. The masala is available in the grocery store. Refrigerate the Pani… (you can also use normal of cold water). I use Everest Brand Pani Puri Masala.

Step 4: Grate the Carrots, Finely chop onions and tomatoes. You can use a chopper.

Make your Sweetener

Step 1: Add 4 teaspoons thick tamarind paste to a bowl

Step 2: Mix 4 teaspoons liquid jaggery. In Karnataka it is called Joni Bella.

Step 3: Add salt to taste

Step 4: Add 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

Step 5: Fry the flat Puri (available in the grocery store) with cooking oil. You can alternately purchase pre-fried puris also.

That\’s it. Your mouthwatering, lip smacking Golgappa is ready.

Who can enjoy this delicacy!

Almost everyone can enjoy pani puri. If you have any of the under mentioned symptoms, I suggest you moderate the quantity of intake.

  •  Avoid eating this dish if you have hyperacidity
  • Avoid eating golgappa if you have acidic indigestion
  • Its better to avoid eating this dish if you have GERD
  • People with gluten, nuts allergies must avoid
