Varma Kalai (Marma Vidya)

Varmam is the Tamil word for Marma or better known as 'Meredian' in Acupuncture. Though the word 'Meredian' is associated with Chinese Acupuncture, Acupressure and Acupuncture actually originated in Southern India. A rshi named Boganathar whose Jiva Samadhi is situated at the foothills of Palani hills in the Tamilnadu State of Southern India, went to Tibet and China and taught the Chinese Varma Kalai or what is today known as Chinese Acupuncture.

We use Varmam to open energy blocks which may cause problems in different parts of the body like back pain, sprains and spasms etc.

Varma Kalai is practiced by Vaidyas (Doctors practicing Indian Medicine) of the Siddha Tradition. The Siddhars are acclaimed medical practitioners and were adepts in Alchemy. Even to this day, there are Siddha practitioners who know how to extract mercury and other metals and minerals from processing plant parts.

Varmam is a traditional practice of locking and unlocking energies in the body. While the practice of locking energies was mainly practiced by experts of martial arts, the practice of unlocking energies finds itsself on the therapeutic front.

Common Varmam practices are used to unlock energies from the neck and help a person with cirvicular spondylosis recover from the radiating pains, it can help a person recover from nausea or migraine almost immediately.

They are useful in other situations like rejuvenating ones energies instantly and also in helping activate drowsy minds and sharpening intellect.
